I can clean a KB without so much as disturbing my forearm. I'd been psyching myself out for weeks. I was sure I'd flip the damn thing wrong, time the knee dip incorrectly, tear off my entire wrist, and shatter my ulna into little red slivers.

I watched [livejournal.com profile] mrzero a few times, went into his back yard (in case I had to drop the damn thing), and... Huttah! Almost perfect the first time, then clean after clean, both right and left, with no ill effects. My swings need refinement, and the cleans are but a gateway to the real exercises; even so, much progress has been made. I've borrowed FRWTL and RKC on video from Mrzero.

[livejournal.com profile] atalanta made me a couple of ergogenic mix CDs, and we dug up Ted Chiang's "Story of Your Life," for real this time. :)

Apart from that, life can stop sucking any minute now. I'd be fine with that.

Ah, but cleans for reps are a good exercise in and of themselves. When you all get together try double 1.5 pood cleans for reps. Heh. You'll see.

I am sore and pained. As usual, the last gift this virus left me was that every old injury since the beginning of time hurts. All I have to do is start moving again and it'll all go away, but for now, ow.

The first two paragraphs are about strength training with a kettlebell, which is a one-piece cast iron sphere with a handle.

"Story of Your Life" is a fantastic science fiction short story about aliens whose written language indicates... Oh, it's just fucked up. Read it.

The last part applies to almost everything else.

oh and

FRWTL and RKC are acronyms for two very good kettlebell training videos, "From Russia with Tough Love" and "Russian Kettlebell Challenge."

atalanta made me a couple of ergogenic mix CDs,

My brain read that as 'ergonomic mix CDs' and I thought huh, music has that much of an effect on how you lift things? I guess that sort of makes sense...
