Tonight I've set a new personal record on the deadlift. I won't say how much, for fear of causing the monstrous [livejournal.com profile] bottleimp a laughter-induced aneurysm, but I'll tell ya -- last time I tried to move this much weight was during a period of unusual dedication about a year ago, and the bar didn't move an inch. This time it came up -- all the way up -- four times. It would have come up a fifth, but my grip was shot, and naked fear turned all my muscles off.

A humorous manifestation of Pavel's "Pink Panther Effect" took place after I did those deads. I went to pick a 45lb plate up off the ground, and I nearly yanked it overhead.

This will only make sense to you if you know what a Volvo B230F engine sounds like: My new muffler has made my car very happy. I can tell because my brick now makes the eccentric little tinny note emitted by all healthy B230F's and B230FT's. It's breathing better. Jumps a little quicker when I step on it, too. :)

I made [livejournal.com profile] sadira late for work today, because I forgot to turn my alarm on. Fed her cinnamon toast and OJ for breakfast, though.

My boss is gone for a few days. I'm glad my brain is mostly working again. Did another big PCR, and I'll be running those samples tomorrow and Monday. The lab is running fairly well, despite Linda's frequent attempts to fuck all our shit up.

The crappy part is that I'm going to end up coming in for an hour or three over the weekend. My Human Pulmonary Artery Endothelial Cells decided to get confluent yesterday, meaning that they'll be expressing my target protein (hACE) Saturday and Sunday. I've been trying to see if I could somehow push this to Monday, but I really doubt it. If the cells sit for too long, they'll croak, and these aren't cheap. G needs these data for her grant revisions, so it would be bad form, not to mention stupid, to lose the HPAEC.

[livejournal.com profile] saturniidae and I are going to build Fluffy a new tank! Tomorrow, to Home Depot for materials. I need to have some glass cut, too.
