Friday into Saturday
Mar. 19th, 2006 10:11 pmGot to work early, finished gigantic pile of lab work in double-time. Snuck out earlyish, feeling smug. Went home, packed a bag for the weekend, took clippers to my unruly hair. Shoehorned a big, heavy boxful of musical joy into the trunk. Drove out to have dinner and party-primp with
couplingchaos (CC).
Suitably dinnered, showered, and shaved, we depart for a small gathering. CC is delighted with her new stereo system, though I could have timed its delivery a little better. Excellent company, treats, tunes, and fine drink take us to the wee hours (but I did need a little nap halfway through). I claim crashspace sometime before 4am. CC and I rest until about 9.
We rise for half an hour or so, do a little straightening up, and chat with
silentq, who had curled up on the couch with a book for the morning. The three of us consider waking the hostesses. I wander off for a brief post-party reconnaissance, checking for revelry-disabled guests to rehydrate and wrap in blankets. Finding none (Everyone was so responsible!), I returned to the living room. Silentq is there, with her book. Where's the muffin? I think I know.
I crawl back into bed with her, and we snore until 11:45. I slide away quietly and return to the living room.
nepenthe01 and
canongrrl are on the couch now, watching TV. I turn to the screen, bleary-eyed and half-asleep, and come face-to-face with a freakishly disgusting, horse-toothed, tufty-nappy-headed, torn-leathery-skinned, hollowed-eyesockets MUMMY. Suddenly, I'm very awake.
Voice-over: Our mysterious pyramid builders lost a major battle, as recounted in these glyphs. The victors beheaded their enemies, gouged out their eyeballs, and piled them up to the sky.

Here's what the TV looked like when the guy said "sky."
I shuffle to the kitchen, feeling disturbed, and help myself to coffee. Then I join the hostesses for some educational programming about monumental architecture. Sometime around 1pm, I poke CC awake.
