Oh, man. You're totally right. The lady and I watched El Orfanato together -- that's when we freaked out. We just skimmed through REC this evening, noting some differences that made it creepier than Quarantine. I couldn't remember when we saw Q. Faulty memory serves a movie critic poorly!

You know what killed Q? You're supposed to care about a protagonist, so that when shit goes down, you're invested. We hated the protagonist. In REC, she's much closer to likeable.

sephardic and I think Q and REC may have been filmed in the same building. The lighting and storyboards are practically the same. Sound effects, plot details, and general mayhem seemed scarier in the Spanish one, though.
