I don't know what I ate or what I caught yesterday, but it tried to kill me. Blegh. [livejournal.com profile] eeyrg, [livejournal.com profile] crystain, and [livejournal.com profile] sadira watched me go from slightly nauseated to ghost-pale and silent. Sadira drove back to Cambridge, then I drove carefully home, where I tried to go to sleep. Nope. Just got worse. Nausea, aches, chills, restlesness, and, worst of all, I couldn't rest comfortably no matter what I did. I was too tired to sit up, but I grew short of breath, and my heart raced, if I lay down. Oh yeah -- and I lost count of the number of times I, um, evacuated.

I applied handwarmers (the kind hikers use) to all the achey parts, and I starting drinking warm water with a pinch of salt and sugar in a very crude attempt at restoring some fluid balance. I'm sure I was a raisin at that point. Didn't sleep a wink until about 9 in the morning, and then I was suddenly much better. I guess that's how long it took to clear the poison, or kill the virus, or both. Fell asleep immediately, napped through the day, ate some unsalted crackers with tomato juice. Quick, steady progress. :)

Dragged my wretched frame to the lab (cells wait for no man), took care of the most essential things, dropped by Sadira's place to pick up my glasses and my watch (forgot 'em there on Sunday), collected a gift from my sweetie, and came home.

Tomorrow I should be good to go. I will take a couple of days off the kettlebell routine. I'll need to shave my head and acquire a 2X4 before meeting up with [livejournal.com profile] sanguineempathy to see Walking Tall.

The leading possible causes for my bout with GI distress are 1) orange juice a little past its prime and 2) learning that Mom plans to vote for Bush.

So, they kept the big hickory stick but decided that the name "Buford Pusser" just wouldn't do? Velly interesting.

I'm changing my name to "Dirk Savagewood."

That was the plan, but there was a scheduling conflict/miscommunication. I'm hoping she'll be my date to The Punisher. :)

Damn shame Mr. Pusser was finally offed with a car bomb in real life. Otherwise, it would be a damn satisfying story.

flat ginger ale is really good for restoring a nauseated stomach, along with graham crackers. or else cool water with lemon and salt is good too. i used to drink this in india and it really helps to settle the stomach. i'm glad to hear you're feeling better :/
