There are always options. World Products, based on Long Island have all sorts of goodies for sale, and imho are better engineered than the stuff coming out of GM. You can buy aluminum blocks for around $1800 - with better main bearing webbing, oiling and such - and build your motor from there :)

Larger displacements, too.
