steel-and-glass cabinet for me. Chief of the department is keeping it. I predict that it will continue to sit in the hall, holding only dust, for years to come.
In a few weeks, put a sign on it (make it look like a photocopied reproduction) to say that this is a fire hazard and is blocking the hallways in case of a fire. Please move this with in 48 hours... and after 2 days, just take it. If your boss asks where it went, your cow-orkers will have read the note. This doesn't work if your company is small or your boss actually knows the biosafety or maintenance people really well.
I'd be happy to come by in a nondescript blue workshirt (after a few days of the note hanging there) and wrestle the cabinet out of the building while cursing loudly.
