Shrapnel flew up through his leg and chipped his femur, slid past his kidney, and came to rest close to his spine. It didn't cut through anything vital. Sometimes inflammation takes a few days to fuck you up after you've injured your back, so it's very good that he can still feel his legs. He was flown back to the US today. The surgeons are hesitant to go shrapnel fishing just yet, because it's very close to the spinal cord.

did you hear they did an emergency partial lobotomy _in the field_ on some guy whose head was badly damaged? he's ok it seems. the dr is quotes as saying "fortunately you can lose some of this part [taps temple] and it doesn't matter."
