Dude, you get postcards?

I usually just get the auto-response email saying "Thank you for expressing interest in ______. We received your CV and will contact you if we need any further information."

I wonder how many times this translates into "We already have a strong internal candidate, but by law we must publically post this job and interview 3 people. Thank you for participating in this semblance of propriety."
