frozen pants

I thought setting myself on fire was exciting. That's nothing. Today, I froze my pants. I got a little too casual with a rack of frozen cells. I pulled it too fast, and I didn't lean it on the lip of the dewar at the right angle, so I bathed my left leg with a short stream of liquid nitrogen. "Hey, I should be more careful with this stuff," I thought. My pants went crunchy for a few seconds, but my skin is intact.

I'm looking at acrylic distributors again. I haven't found a used tank, and I would prefer custom construction anyway. I don't trust myself around hundreds of pounds of raw-edged glass. I'll spend the extra dough and use lightweight, unbreakable plastic instead.

Months ago. I think I wrote about it in here somewhere. I was doing cell culture at high speed, and I neglected to allow an adequate evaporation time for the EtOH I spray down with before waving my hand near the Bunsen burner. My glove went up like a little torch, for a second. Didn't hurt, because the alcohol burned off very quickly, so the nitrile didn't catch. Still very stimulating.
