whale and job
Sep. 3rd, 2003 10:35 pmI forgot to record this: A week ago today, while deep-sea fishing off Newburyport w/
sadira, I saw my first whale. I don't know what flavor it was. That thing was fucking big.

I feel crappy. To quote (paraphrase?) Odd Todd, "Sometimes I think about other people, and how they own stuff, like houses, and cars; and like, they have stuff, like... children." I think I'll apply for work at the New England Aquarium. It's kinda like playing the lottery.

A Wilmark representative wants to hook me up with a biotech company in Cambridge. You wanna see something funny? Here's an excerpt from the job description the Wilmark rep gave me:
We are seeking a Histotechnologist to participate in the research and development of the noninvasive measurement of vulnerable plaque through diffuse reflectance near-infrared spectroscopy.
Now here's the second hit you get when you Google for "noninvasive measurement of vulnerable plaque," a phrase I assumed would not appear in unbroken form on too many web sites:
Oh, you mean this opportunity.
It's too late for me to approach the company on my own, because I already gave Wilmark my resume. I don't think that matters, though. If a client has a good working relationship with a staffing agency, they consider the agency's submitted applicants pre-screened, and therefore more desirable. I hope.
I think I may be overqualified, but who cares? New skills, new interesting technologies, more money. I'll apply.
