no smoking

Went to ManRay last night, on its first smoke-free night ever. When I got there (11:30pm), there was a big herd of people standing outside the entryway. I asked the Security Guy at the door: "Are you at capacity?" No, they weren't those were all the smokers. When I walked in, I was asked if I needed a smoking stamp. Weird.

Inside, the club was half empty. The inner room was packed full of people watching VNV on TV (WTH?). I had a few drinks and talked at people. I had a generally good, non-smoky time.

When I came out of the club, I said "I DON'T SMELL LIKE SMOKE!" spriggan promptly blew a cloud of cigarette smoke right onto my chest. I slapped his bitch ass in the ear. It was reflex. I felt kind of bad about it, but not very. I didn't do it hard. It was still a little embarrassing. I told him I could grow him a whole new ear on the back of a mouse if he wanted one.

Forget it. I'm chickening out. I just put down a masking tape outline for the expected dimensions of the Fluffarium, and... there's no way I'm building this thing. First, I seriously doubt the 3/8"-thick acrylic would be strong enough -- the material would have to be thicker. That brings the price up. Next, it's frickin' HUGE. I'm not doing it. I'm buying an All-Glass 180. I'll have it faster, and it's much less likely to explode catastrophically. End of story.
