OK! I was unemployed and kinda depressed. [livejournal.com profile] sephardic had vacation time, cash to lend, and a well-directed urge to make me visit new and interesting geographic locations. She bought us plane tickets.

On 02.11.2010, we took a Virgin Airlines* flight straight from Boston to San Francisco. I'd never been on a new airplane before. It was wonderful. There were screens on the back of every seat to keep people still and dumb. Snacks and drinks could be beckoned with a swipe of plastic. The lighting was bluish and gentle. The seats felt supportive. Turbulence caused quiet cabin wiggles, not upleasant creaks and rattles.** I read and scribbled and slept. [livejournal.com profile] sephardic watched a horrible television program about trophy wives, listened to music, did crosswords, and slept.

We arrived in SF after 10pm. ES, my lady's high school buddy, picked us up and transported us to the top of Twin Peaks, where I acquired this grainy digital photograph using my mobile telephone:

Then we went to ES's place and slept.

* I think it's stupid to name anything "Virgin," unless it has a hymen. Is that just me?

** You should never read Airframe, mostly because it sucks, but also because you don't want to know how airplanes are built, or the number of counterfeit replacement parts they accumulate. Uh, at least according to Michael Crichton.

On 02.12.2010, we woke up.

Hey, I haven't mentioned ES's walls. He's a skilled photographer, and his apartment is lined with exceptionally keen shots of landscapes and animals. He showed me a photo of an ostrich's tongue (it bit his camera), and a brilliant shot of himself reflected in a squirrel's eyeball.

That's definitely a serious lens, and possibly a rabid squirrel.

Anyway, we woke up, got our shit together, piled it all into ES's Camry, and headed out for Yosemite. Oh, we stopped in Oakland to get CJ. She's cool.

At this point, I fell asleep in the car, more or less until we got close to the park, some four hours-ish later. Big landscape change.

Powerful therapy.
