I had never been to Walden Pond. water_childe showed me the secret parking spot, and led me, with her flashlight, by the underpass, along the tracks, and through the woods to the water's edge. Its surface looked like glass. We slipped in around 9:30, I think. The sky was full of stars and silent little airplanes.

Oooh, wonderful! I wish I wasn't creeped out by water that I can't see through. No way you'd get me in a pond/lake/river/ocean at night! Which is really too bad, because I really love the water. Guess I've seen too many stupid Sci-Fi horror movies.

I used to go skinny dipping at Walden at night, until they started to tow non-residents from the high school lot we would use to get there. We would also flashlight through the woods, to the quiet side of the pond for swimming. I would love the chance to find another secret parking place and go again. Now I just go in the daytime whenever I can.

There are a couple of "super secret ninja" places to park. The safest of these (in terms of not risking getting towed) is really only big enough for one car. But there are a few other spots suitable for more then a few cars, if you plan on sneaking in with a small posse. Ask me off LJ because, although it's common knowlege to some, I think it unwise to broadcast it on a sem-public forum. The best time to visit the pond by night is if the moon is full. The pond is beautiful as it is, but it's extra magical by moonlight.

The biggest issue is how few good swimming days we've had this summer. :( I feel like I'm getting most of my swimming in now that September is right around the corner.

*sigh* Yeah, I realize I live in the wrong part of the world for decent swimming weather. And I more then concur with you on the 'getting it in now' before Sept. thing.
Actually, I've found that going to the beach in Sept is great. The water's had all Summer to warm up and their are fewer crowds. I've been watching the moon. It will be full by this coming Monday. Regardless of temp. I need to make another pilgrimage to Walden by night, and a full moon is too tempting to pass up.
