I may have seen one of the 547 Buick GNXs ever produced last week. It is possible that the car was a clone, or a Grand National with the aftermarket fender vents (they were only stock in the GNX). Whatever it was, it was beautiful and evil.

It slowed down and stopped at a green light. I wondered why for a fraction of a second. Just as I thought “I bet he’s gonna-,” the back tires lit up. Then there was nothing left but a white cloud in the air and two black stripes on the ground.

I built a model of the GNX =)

Actually there used to be at least one of them that I would see every so often in RI when they first came out, but I haven't seen one in a long time. I haven't seen a Grand National in quite a while either.

I used to see a couple of GNC Cyclones and Typhoons running around here too. I can't even remember the last time I saw one of those.

I'll bet you could put that drivetrain into something like, I dunno, a Beretta. That would be wicked.

No way! It would be Wrong-Wheel Drive, and it wouldn't look as good. The ticket is a stroked LT1 or LS1 in the Regal. Torquey. :)

Sorry, let me clarify...

I meant put the Cyclone/Typhoon drivetrain in a Beretta. It's the same turbo 4.3 as the GN + all wheel drive. Tell me that wouldn't be awesome. And it wouldn't be a truck!

Ooooooh. That is a good idea.

Oh yeah, speaking of "wrong wheel drive", I don't believe I told you about this, although you've probably already seen it:

By the way, it's not just a concept...you can buy all the necessary parts from Ford Racing to diy.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it has a live rear axle, although I'm sure the IRS from the Cobra SVT (or similar) could be adapted instead...

Yep. [livejournal.com profile] jhimm showed me. :) It's amazing, but I would build something very different with that kind of money.

Yeah no kidding...me too!

there's another similar beast
made by ATI Motorsport
called the ATI Terminator Focus.
rather than using the Crammer V8
and a bunch of other add on parts,
they just transplanted
the entire drivetrain of a mustang cobra into the focus.

oh,
btw,
did i ever tell you
i really did finally get my SVT Focus?
=)
and i'm auto-x'ing it.

do you still race?

The drivetrain-into-Focus sounds like a nicer option to me. Going from the Focus' well-designed IRS to a live axle is like stepping back 50 years technology-wise.

Glad to hear you got into auto-x, it's a lot of fun. I gave up racing about 2 years ago now I think. I will probably get back into it again eventually, but I don't know when that will be...I do miss it.

you haven't seen a grand national in a while
because the new grand nationals don't look like a grand national.
in fact,
i weep every time i see the new ones...

*sigh*

Ah, I didn't know there actually *was* a new GN. All I know is the old Regal-based one. I do see a Regal T-Type every once in a while (the pre-GN car).

my bad.
i was thinking of the new Monte Carlos,
i realized,
when i saw one yesterday,
and shuddered
at its hideous, plastic, yellow-ness.

Indeed. The new MC's are

1. exceptionally stupid-looking and
2. Wrong-Wheel Drive.

I don't know what they were thinking. Blegh.

BTW, got your v-mail about the car the other day, bro. Sorry, life interferes. Will call you soon.

Even if I could afford a GNX...the snow, man, the goddamn ever-fucking snow....

True. In New England, RWD is for fun cars, not for commuter cars. :/
