This way, I'll have to.
Mar. 15th, 2005 05:16 pmI'm at work. When I get home, this will be my workout:
3x15 swing
2(2x5) military press
3(2x8) clean and jerk
5x12 pushup
3x5 Russian ballet leg thrust
Then I'll shower and run out for beer with
pyrric.
Edit: make that 2(2x8) c&j, 4x12 pu, and zero leg thrusts. Out of oomph on the first, out of time on the rest. Still infinitely better than no workout at all.

Date: 2005-03-16 01:09 am (UTC)the present: i got my KB months ago and tried using it and was WAY to heavy for me to handle safely. i lost interest for a while but recently (about a month ago) got myself onto a lifting routine with dumbells, in an attempt to build up my strength and get me to the point were the KB wasn't so bad. The other day I started doing elbow lifts as an augmentation to my shoulder/arm routine and noticed when holding it that it really hurts were it is laying against my forearm... I'm wondering if it's just that those muscles need to get used to being pressed against? I dunno... If it hasn't been sorted out by your next gathering perhaps you can point me in the right direction.

Date: 2005-03-16 01:54 am (UTC)The clean (getting it up to your chest) is a bit technical. You should def get L or Z to check you out. The critical thing about arm placement is that your wrist must be straight, as if you were punching something.
Note that if you relax your wrist and let the KB bend it backwards, it actually hurts your forearm LESS, because the KB rests on a lower, meatier area. But, that is very, very bad for your wrist ligaments and capsule. So suck it up, keep your wrist straight, and take the pain as a sign that you're not doing something bad.

Wacka-chicka wacka-chicka wacka-chicka wow-wow-wow...
And something else:
Date: 2005-03-16 01:57 am (UTC)I mean, I can 2-hand swing a 145-pound KB. Can't do anything else with it, but I can swing it.
If you can deadlift it, you can swing it.
