I took the day off
Apr. 12th, 2005 11:38 pmto go see the people I used to work with. So many changes!
OV, the brilliant and insane Colombian MD-PhD, has struck gold buying auctioned scientific apparatus. His lab is nearly impenetrable now, stacked high with centrifuges, lyophilizers, orbital shakers, hoods, the works. I can't believe how much crap he fit into there.
My old boss, a practicing Jew (complete with little hat) took me aside to tell me a joke:
Two jewish old ladies are sitting on a park bench. One says, "You know, the Pope said, just the other day, that the Jews didn't really kill Jesus."YL, the walking laboratory health hazard (many Chinese post-docs are, I hear), is pregnant. She's due in two months. There must be so much Ethidium Bromide in that woman... I'm surprised she hasn't changed color. Hope that kid comes out with all its fingers and toes, and no extra heads.
Astonished, the other woman asks, "Really?!" After about a minute of looking puzzled, she furrows her brow a little. "Well. Who did, then?"
The first woman shrugs, thinks for a moment... "Must've been some Puerto Rican."
JS, who has been working in that Pulmonary and Critical Care lab for about 36 years, is leaving in a month or two. She and her husband are starting a little arts and crafts business of some sort.
LL, whose brain I will pick this Thursday night (she's the RN who knows a lot about clinical studies) is leaving NEMC this month. I think she's going to MGH, but I'm not sure.
There's a new girl working for UK, presumably replacing the tech I stole for JD before he sold his business. This new girl is taking the MCATs this weekend. She looks a little stressed.
