stating the obvious
Apr. 26th, 2005 08:54 pmOn TV and in the movies,
1. Fights are long and beautifully choreographed, instead of short, awkward and messy.
2. People get hurt, and the viewer feels nothing. Properly portrayed violence should cause some discomfort, even if the bad guy is on the receiving end. Paper cuts hurt, man. A broken leg should almost make you sick.
3. People take disabling hits... and jump back up.
4. People take hits that should make them writhe on the floor and cry out for minutes on end, but they just faint peacefully instead. Hey, that wasn't so bad!
5. Violence is okay, but sex is bad.
6. Then again, if there's no sex, people won't watch it. Therefore, there has to be sexual tension in every single storyline.
7. Everyone is quick with a witty riposte.
8. Most of the characters are attractive. Most people are... not.
(Firefly is guilty of all of the above, yes. But damn, it's good anyway.)
The truth is, I'm out of excuses, and I should go work out now.

Date: 2005-04-27 03:16 am (UTC)true, quite true.
People take disabling hits... and jump back up
and yet, in what experience I've had, it's proved damned hard to get some asshole to stay down.
Most of the characters are attractive. Most people are... not
