Friday night I hit a birthday party, where I saw bagpipes up-close for the first time. My brain took a few seconds -- golf clubs, strange utensils, crafts raw materials... BAGPIPES -- to identify them. Trivia: Bagpipe tuning is seriously fucked up.

Saturday afternoon, coffee and croissants at Quebrada Bakery with youngenglshrose (where thehippiespeaks was training a novice), then a solo voyage to Cromwell, Connecticut, for a long-anticipated atalanta and mrzero visit. Oh, what a nice house, in such a pleasing town. They have a garage, and a big yard with two red maples. It was so good to see them. We watched Serenity and Capricorn One. The first did not disappoint (I hadn't seen it yet!), which says a lot, given the series that spawned it; and the second was surprisingly good.

I needed this weekend. My mind was so clouded on Friday afternoon, and so much clearer 48 hours later.

Now I'll put the new Power Grips on the bike. If the weather cooperates, I'll go for a short ride.

TIGHTEN THEM! Mine fell off right after you inspected them and I lost several washers and bolts. I have to figure out the sizes so I can replace them.

I remember C1. The thing I remember most clearly, oddly enough, is when they use a dime(?) to pull the hinge pins out of the door to escape.

Yup. The guy used a little medallion-pendant to pry the hinge -- a pendant he later dropped on the soundstage, which the reporter found, and took for proof they'd never left the atmosphere.

The Reavers did not disappoint, after being shadowy boogeymen for the entire series. I liked their nasty brute-tech. Grappling hooks, dart guns (they want you alive when they eat you), Big Fucking Axes.

BWAH HAH HAH HAH! Oh my God, I don't think I've ever heard anyone refer to Cromwell like that. Maybe after 17 years, the bloom is off the rose.

Oh, I agree, the stretch of road you're on is really nice, as is your house (which is actually more than just 'nice' and goes straight on to beautiful). It's just that after spending the first 17 years of my life there, and especially after being a surly teenager there, I'm brainwashed into thinking of it solely as a morass of misery.
