I have four tiny stitches near the distal end of my left clavicle. The inert, nearly imperceptible, nine-year-old epidermoid cyst that once occupied that space meant me no harm; but, the way my luck's been turning, I was sure that little fucker was ready to go malignant and eat my shoulder.

That's the first time someone's cauterized me while I was conscious. I smelled delicious! If the incision heals decently, I'll have the same doctor take out the one that's three inches above my navel. This one isn't easy to see, either, but 1) I like ripping out things that don't belong there, and 2) what tiny slivers of control I can scrape from my insolent body, I will snatch fiercely.

A quiet night in with beer and glowing skin.

I'm counting cells. It's not bad, given the right equipment: a big monitor, a good soundtrack, and booze. Don't ask me what the staining is. I don't remember. Ki67 somethingsomething, to mark current or recent cell division. The big green dots are new, or about-to-make-new, keratinocytes. Yeah, the background is pretty high.

At 130K+ miles, Dad's six-year-old 323 still sounds and feels like a new car. It's incredible. Too bad he has to drop $600 into it for every minor electrical glitch. I bet his next car will be a Honda.

I've had no problems with the Civic. Had to bounce it off a curb in a rainstorm to mess up the alignment. Three years, zero unscheduled repairs. The car's only flaw, apart from the shortcomings common to all cheap cars, is its utter lack of personality.

Your glowing skin looks like a nudibranch.

Cauterising shouldn't smell as good as it does, made me want BBQ the last time.

BTW, I am curious about the ki67 staining and why youse guys are doing it via immunofluorescence. You can get very good results with DAB.

No idea. I wasn't involved in the choice of staining protocols, and I'm unfamiliar with most of this stuff anyway. Is Diaminobenzidene more scary (carcinogenic) than IF reagents?

Oh, sure. It's carcinogenic, but you're not supposed to be drinking it. Many other things recommend it:

1. Works great in paraffin (higher resolution)
2. The KI67 I did had very low background
3. It's permanent; slides don't fade
4. You look at it with a regular light microscope.
