I call do-over on today. I tried to plumb in the UV sterilizer, but the fittings won't match my filter's tubing. I have the required adapters, but not the 2" scraps of large-diameter tube needed to patch them in. So I tried to re-install the filter, but the barb fittings on the lid were so tight, I straightened out a metal clip on the canister trying to swap the tubing back. Replacement clip kits cost $3 online. Shipping costs $20. I called Tropic Isle. They have the part. This means driving to Framingham.

This is a stupid hobby.

Maybe they'll have a nice nigrolineatus at the store. I've got room.

Why would you want a nigrolin, whatever that is, if it's just going to eat you?

Because it's pretty, and its pattern will be a nice complement to Tomato's. In fact, maybe they will become friends!

These catfish don't eat people, unlike the demon river cat in the basement.

I have a funny story about a love triangle among the striated cichlids, where the nancy-boy cichlid cuckolded Mr Virility-cichlid to his face, but it could be that I totally anthropormophised what was going on, and that the female is actually sick, rather than pregnant, which would not be funny at all. Of course, that I might have a story about my housemate's fishes' psychodrama just points to that I have no life outside of going to clubs and photographing rock stars.

I used the Latin name, yet you exceeded my nerdiness.

I too have a nigrolineatus with the most awesome reddish brown eyes. But that is not why I am here. I here to talk about Fuffy, or at least about a relative of Fluffy's. See, I have a year old Protopterus aethiopicus aethiopicus named Nessy and I was thinking, in honor of Fluffy and in helping keep her spirit alive, I could post in Fluffy's journal once in a while updates concerning Nessy. My intent is to keep this animal until the day I die and I thought I could share some of my experiences with the Fluffy community.

Hello! Thanks for dropping in. I'd love to have you contribute to [livejournal.com profile] fluffy_lungfish. Let me talk to the creator of the group. (I was Fluffy's keeper, but my friend started the "fan club.")

An aethiopicus, huh? You're not messin' around. That species makes annectens look small, doesn't it? :)

Yup, yup, it's the biggest of biggest. Right now shes about 18 inches. I say 'she' only because it is so beautiful and I don't know of any external sexual differences, because it is so young.

See, this is why we went with a relatively natural, deep sand bed Reef tank, rather then the whole insane Berlin method fish tank. Fewer fish but a hell of a lot less money and active maintenance. :-)

I've always found the different marine tank paradigms really interesting. This is a freshwater tank. It's pretty easy to maintain -- it's just HUGE (180 gallons), so any minor change is a major project.
