ZICAM is homeopathic? Says so, right on the box. I hope that's just buzzword abuse. I already bought the stuff. I've heard the concept explained by detractors and practitioners, and it sounds ridiculous every time.

It's buzzword abuse. Zinc supplementation is an immune stimulant, and IIRC metal ions are unfriendly to viruses. They just call it homeopathic because zinc was in the homeopathic materia medica already.

OTOH, I tried Y-Snore on a lark because my BIL gave me a bottle, and damned if it didn't work.

Zicam is some powerful mojo, in any case. Warm it up to body temp before you squirt it up your nose and you can pretend that you're in a porno flick gone horribly wrong.

Homeopathic mixtures will usually carry odd notations in the ingredients list. Usually a number followed by a letter or two (X, D, and C seem to be the most common). I'd look to see if the product contains any 'active' ingredients referred to in those notations.

Zinc is one of those weird things that still has pretty largely divergent "scientific studies" on it's usefulness in helping shorten colds. (I've outright sought them out once upon a time, and a few said "definitely above average" and some said "none at all".)

I think it works because it keeps your mucous membranes moist. Sticking zinc in your nose doesn't really do anything.
