fish oil

Can't sleep. Could have something to do with spending 70% of three consecutive days in bed. I can breathe, though -- through my nose, even -- so I'm not complaining.

There are about 603 different forms of fish oil, which may or may not alleviate melancholia, available at Whole Foods. Most of them are offensively, I'll-squeeze-the-damn-fish-myself expensive. I skipped the $60 jar, the $40 jar, and so on, until I found the ugly, generic, $16 jar of gargantuan fish oil gelcaps.

These particular horse-sized pills have 180mg EPA each, and 120mg of some other magical fish molecule that gives you disgusting burps. I didn't notice it at first, but now I see they also contain concentrated garlic extract. Well, if that doesn't take the pressure off. Tom Selleck couldn't score if he ate these.

The "winning" subjects in the study I skimmed were getting 1 gram of ethyl-eicosapentaenoate a day. That's six horse pills. I'll leave a slick, flammable trail of garlic-scented oil everywhere I go. Someone drops a cigarette, and *FOOF*, I'm an hors d'oeuvre.

With a staggering triglyceride count, my sweetimus started taking 15 horse pills a day. It worked. Six? don't complain.

I suggest stacking the fish oil caps with some Alli, so you can REALLY leave an oil slick behind you.

when i took fishoil, i usually would just buy a bottle of it and take it in tablespoons so i could mix it with food.

Best prices I've found for this grade of cod liver oil. I use the cinnamon flavored liquid form -- I'm okay with the taste (it's the texture that's really weird), and it's so much less expensive than capsule form. I purchase a case at a time, and take 1-2tsps/day -- if I were taking capsules I'd be running into the same problem you are. I'd much rather deal with swallowing some oil than taking five capsules a day.

Why cod liver oil? My doctor generally believes that we're better off getting nutrition from food, that our bodies are better able to process vitamins and minerals when they come in that package form rather than denuded in supplements. On his recommendation I started with the CLO and it's helped level out my moods quite a bit.

Thanks! I don't mind swallowing capsules -- I'm just surprised at how many seem to be required, and wondering if I'm accumulating weird "inactive ingredients" from the delivery system. Might have to give your chosen CLO a try later.

There is always Flax Seed Oil. Many Omega-3s. No garlic or fish. Also possibly cheaper. Not sure if it makes less saddening occur but it is otherwise similar.
