Sometimes I miss Capoeira Angola. Here's what a good game looks like. Oo! this one is even better.

Tony Jaa starred in a terrible movie called The Protector. The film's best scene (jump to 00:30) is a fight between a skilled capoeirista and the protagonist. If Angola is Tai Chi on the aggression scale, the style showcased here (Regional, pronouced "HeshioNAHL") is Krav Maga. See all that posturing and ridicule? That's not acting -- mentally unsettling the opponent is a big deal in Capoeira. They're bastards.

20' ginga*
underhand pull-up 3x5
push-up 4x12

You can't ginga without music, because that makes you look crazy. I used this track.

years and years and years ago I did Regional. I opted to take that instead of doing PE in high school. (The institution didnt want me in regular PE. i had a habit of losing my temper at the time and getting in fights...) solution, put me somewhere where i learn how to be -more- dangerous. their logic is funny ;p

i really liked it, but discovered that my vertically challenged self is always going to lose. just dont ahve the reach...

but damn, were the boys nummy.

Yeah, that's true. I saw a dangerous tubby one once. They're rare, though. Makes it all the more surprising when they knock you over. ;P

Aw, I know that "The Protector" is hardly Oscar worthy, but I still love it. It was so amazingly over the top in so many ways. Still, what's not to love about a martial artist who wants to save endangered animals?

"The Protector" is the one where some guy throws a baby elephant at another, right?

That'd be the one. He actually throws the elephant at nobody, with the intent of harming the projectile. It goes through a plate glass window, for effect.

Did you see this on B0st0n?

Capoeira Gerais is having an Open House next Monday, June 9th, in Boston at Boston Ultimate Fitness (aka Nam Pai Academy) at 7:30 PM. Contra-Mestre Coreba is originally from Brazil and previously taught capoeira in Spain and Switzerland.

Boston Ultimate Fitness is located in Chinatown at 33 Harrison Ave, on the 7th Floor, upstairs from Nick the Tailor (but take the elevator): http://www.yelp.com/biz/boston-ultimate-fitness-boston

If you can't come to the open house but would still like to take a class, you can come any Monday or Wednesday at 7:30. Classes are an hour in length. Or, check Contra-Mestre Coreba's schedule on www.capoeirageraisusa.com

Make sure to wear or bring comfortable clothing and sneakers. A TOWEL and WATER strongly recommended, because you are going to sweat! (if you forget the water, there are vending machines and a water fountain at the gym)
