growing pains
May. 28th, 2008 12:43 amThe Oldsmobile has teething issues, as one should expect of a custom car. The most dramatic problem was the secession of the rear left shock absorber. I bet the mounting bolt was over-tightened at some point (possibly even before Chop-Shop touched it), and it finally snapped over the weekend. Grey-Patti automotive is taking care of that tomorrow. They're also going to diagnose the source(s) of steering play. Could be the tie-rod ends ($40), the steering gearbox ($400), or both. Shit. Anyway, none of this will be free, but it'll get done before 2011.
The other urgent problem is that the horn stopped working. Come on, Chop-Shop. New steering column, new steering wheel, plenty of time and money to make the wiring better than new. Ugh.
The non-urgent stuff -- exhaust leak, dead gauges, etc. -- only bothers me because it should already be right. I seriously think I'll end up having Grey-Patti take care of the little things, though I'm entitled to having them addressed free of charge in Woburn. I can walk home from Grey-Patti's, and they've done me right so far. Can't put a price on that.
