*1:1 Scale Hot Wheels dance*
Sep. 11th, 2008 02:36 pmLemme see... New starter, flywheel, pilot bearing, rear main seal, rear coil springs, gas tank, horn relay, shift linkage, trunk weather seal, rear axle bearings and seals, and rebuilt rear axles -- in three weeks, including diagnostics, parts sourcing, and sub-contracting. Crap, I wish I'd found these guys earlier.
Add "rear axles" to the list of wickedly overbuilt components (crate ZZ4, Centerforce clutch, TKO-500 trans, custom driveshaft...). The weak spot in my powertrain is now the differential, which is perfectly fine. Good, old-fashioned wheel-hop will protect the gears, if I get exuberant. ;P
The car needs a starter heat shield fabbed up, and some sort of stance-levelling kit for the rear springs, which has been ordered. Mobil said I could take it home for the weekend if I wanted to, but I chose to let them keep it and finish the whole process at one go.

Date: 2008-09-11 07:32 pm (UTC)I can't fathom how a rear main seal would leak so young, but I'm glad Mobil found it before the poor motor bled out and 'sploded.
Things are pretty tight around those primaries, so I chose some smaller-headed Milodon header fasteners, with no locks, just to keep things more accessible. I don't expect them to back out, once they're settled in. If they do, then I'll look at locking things down. I bought a fancy can of Nickel anti-seize compound, and everything. I'm a mechanic now. ;P
What's a muscle car if you don't have to pop the hood and get greasy at random places? (I should keep some gloves in their compartment, for times like those.)

Date: 2008-09-11 07:48 pm (UTC)You're going to have such a blast driving your ride around in the fall. There's something about crisp fall air, the smell of leaves and hearing them crunch under the tires of a cool old wild ride.
Plus, the girlies have never experienced something so...visceral.
