Any chance you were in Chinatown on a recent Monday night? (maybe the 8th or 15th?) I was leaving Mandarin class around 8 pm and could have sworn you were waiting in the lobby of the building with two other guys, waiting for the elevator.

Yes! I'm taking Wing Chun two floors above your Mandarin class. I'm there Mondays, Tuesdays, and some Thursdays, 7-9PM. Sifu must've been late that night.
