The woman behind the counter, Delia, got much friendlier when I said
Me: Delia -- do you speak Spanish?
Delia: Yes.
Me: Y ¿de donde es usted?
Delia: (bug-eyed for an instant, then) De Puerto Rico.
Me: La mancha de plátano se nota desde lejos.*
Delia: LOL
