Lemme 'splain you why I didn't go to Machine last night.

There. Did you hear that? I could handle the looped 80s clips and the look-what-I-found dress code, but this smug-retro-irony-house stuff is like having red ants poured into my ears' underwear.

AMEN! That clip alone made me want to go kick things. Kick things in bad costuming that would be deemed ironic when clothes are not F****** ironic.

'Party Monster' type parties are big in NYC. It was fun to have something like that in town for once. It was like a big twisted dark circus in there Saturday night. Most fun I've had at Machine in years.

If you like that sort of music and that is your kind of thing, great!
However, there are lots of folks that simply dislike that sort electronica. I didn't like this sort of music the FIRST time around when I was in my teens and my opinion certainly has not improved at 33 :) (GIT OFF MY LAWN)

The big twisted dark circus is a ok -- but the music doesn't have to suck that badly -- it really doesn't :)

Well, I'm not sure exactly what you do like.. but I think you may have been surprised by what was actually played. It was dark techno and very industrial. Mike McKay played the darkest/industrial stuff and Red Foxx KILLED it and sent the night into overdrive with stuff that you might hear at Hearthrob. They did a great job of bleeding together the techno and goth/industrial (and whatever else) into one big awesome party.

That video flier is not at all representative of the actual events music.

If you just dislike techno/electronic/industrial than it's just wouldn't have been your cup o tea. ;) I go to goth/industrial nights all the time (and have for.. gawd too many years [rip manray] but I _really_ love the techno scene here in Boston (<3throb and Make it New!) and only dance to that for the most part now. So I am biased. BUT .. a ton of goths came with me and they all had a blastie. =)

Unfortunately, for people who don't know the night or the djs, the flier is what we have to go with.

What constitutes dark/industrial stuff? Is there a playlist anywhere?

Yeah..the Heartthrob thing isn't really for me..too much raver type techno badness for my taste.

I'm waiting to see postings from it. I'm psyched for the pics. We probably won't see a playlist from Red Foxx (I could be wrong?) because he was mostly mixing like a madman but I'm not sure about Mike McKay.

I'm NOT a fan of most industrial so I couldn't really begin to say what exactly it was and if it was anything familiar.

It just wasn't your typical rave or indie kid night.

I really hope they get to do it again.

It's true that the video flyer could have done more harm than good. Most clubs you just get a flier and that's it. Most of us knew the DJs but had NO idea what to really expect other than to dress up in some way that would scare grandma. =D

This is what happens when the culture industry raises an entire generation on remakes, remixes, sequels, reunions, mash-ups, and meta-programming.

Heaven may be a religious myth, but Hell now exists, and we all live in it.

You seriously missed a wicked fun night. I never dance at Machine and I was all over the place. A ton of people dressed up (this was a big part of the Hearthrob vibe years ago) and it was FUN. The music was insanely good dark techno/industrial and the dance floor was packed.

Darnit! False advertising. If the flyer tells me something is going to suck, I believe it! ;)

Yeah, the downside to any kind of audio/video flier. They should have just stuck with the paper flier and had people wondering about the music. =D

That video is more in-line with what Hearthrob does.

If you totally hate techno/electro though that severely you may not have enjoyed it. Personally I danced my face off (thankfully I had a mask on!) lol

Yeah that's pretty substantial marketing fail.

I'm a total curmudgeon and I had a great time! It's definitely nice to have a night to get all dressed up for again and not in a strictly fetish sense.

I could easily see how it could have been cheesy, especially based on the video. The whole 'party monster' thing has been done to death over the years but they managed to pull it off with the right amount of cheek. Heartthrob used to have this great sense of taking 'underground' cultural references and presenting them in this awesomely goofy way. I feel like HT lost that a while ago and hadn't been much fun but this night brought it back.

Hmph. The video flyer's audio was all I had to go with, and it turned me off completely. Oh, well. Maybe next time.
