meat question
Nov. 3rd, 2009 05:05 pmOK. Say you want to eat steak for dinner. You want it to be nicer than Frank's, but less pricey than Coach Grill. Ah! Say you want a Tango-level steak, only you don't feel like going to Tango. Where do you go?

Date: 2009-11-03 10:22 pm (UTC)The Stockyard is just a bit higher than Frank's on the ambiance scale, and still has that old school townie establishment feel, but their steak is pretty tasty as well.
There's also tons of meaty goodness at the Midwest Grill, but getting served rodizio style doesn't quite have the visceral pleasure of having a honest-to-goodness steak delivered to your plate, y'know?

Date: 2009-11-03 11:13 pm (UTC)Mooo... does a 3 course $20 lunch prix fixe everyday (I think? I have to double check if it is on weekends) with a bloody fantastic (pun intended) steak on there. There is a very good reason the restaurant is called "Mooo"
$7 above your price point (but includes appetizer + dessert) are the dinner prix fixe menus. Mooo... has a $35 dinner 3 course prix fixe on Sundays & Mondays and I'm pretty sure it has steak on there too.Mistral has steak on their prix fixe (Sun/Mon 3 courses, $35). Haven't eaten it, but having eaten other of their foods, it's likely to be phenomenal. Now if wood-grilled tickles your fancy, out in Burlington is L'Andana, and they have steak on their 3 course $35 prix fixe dinner Sun-Fri.
Damn. Now I'm hungry :(

Date: 2009-11-06 02:52 pm (UTC)People get into all kinds of weird sauces, rubs and butters with steak. I have no idea why. You're paying ultra-premium prices for a top cut of meat. It should taste like meat.
If you can't find a farm to connect with, The Evil known as Whole Foods sells nothing but humanely raised and butchered meats. But their mark-up is actually worse than dealing directly with a small farmer.
Many small meat vendors are haunting farmer's markets these days, so that may be the easiest place to start if you can find one.
