My Amazon tank is contaminated with Malaysian trumpet snails (Melanoides tuberculata) from my southeast asian tank. Trumpets breed like rabbits and hide in the gravel, eventually growing so numerous that they cause the substrate to undulate eerily. I just added three assassin snails (Clea helena) to the Amazon tank. These are supposed to hunt down, kill, and eat other snails(!). They're not a south american species, either, but they reproduce very slowly, so I can just remove them once they're done cleaning up. Let's see what happens.
