Alcian Blue was wonderful and stable, but...

it was incredibly hazardous to manufacture. It's not made anymore for just that reason.

This is very interesting. "Avatar" furries are no doubt squealing (or hissing, etc.) with delight.

Yes, Prussian blue is a cyanide compound. Mmmmm.

I can't remember the details, but making Alcian involved boiling some horrible, flammable carcinogen. So eventually all the mfg stopped.
