It has been a while... and I was on a huge sci fi jag when I read it, so I confuse some of the books (Old Man's War was around the same time).
Is that the one where people practiced stuff on pluto and if they tipped over and the heat vent on their suit hit the ground they'd explode? That was nifty ;)
Old Man's War was a derivative novel written by a Haldeman fan. That one was entertaining, but very pulpy, compared to The Forever War.
The Forever War was, indeed, the one where some training took place on Charon (Charon, Pluto... Whatever. Both really friggin' cold). People who accidentally touched frozen gases with their heat sinks would go boom.
