the other weekend i was at a mud-run-obstacle course thing and there was a challenge for the spectators that involved using a long-handled sledge hammer to strike/slide a heavy piece of metal from one end of a slot in the base to the other. all of the kids who were trying this were grabbing the sledge hammer right behind the head and taking these fervent little tapping swings at it. i bit my tongue and didn't say "grab the end of the handle and let the falling weight of the hammer help you for gosh sakes!".
